Gramma’s Cupboard-Country Wisdom and Lessons for Life

Thus saith the LORD,

Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good Way,

And walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

Bottled ginger beer

4 pheasant chicks hatched under hen

Ruger’s surgical site swollen and red, 1 stitch pulled out.

Thurs. August 17, 2023

Ruger’s wound worse. Started 2008 dog antibiotics in the middle of a long, worried night.

To the vet… again. She drained the site and put him on another week of carprofen. Has to wear ‘comfort dog muzzle’. Doesn’t seem comforted.

Ruger’s Comfort Muzzle

Took pizza and Coke home to the family to encourage us.

Waived my nap to sit and watch Ruger so he could have his mask off

Made cheesy hashbrown and fresh peach cobbler for supper

Bible Study with all of the family via FaceTime

Smoke coming over the hills.

Later in day:

Smoke is coming from two lightning strike brush fires 10 miles away near several neighbors’ homes. Being fought by ground crews, farm equipment, dozers, air power. Ash raining down here.

Sat. August 19, 2023

Drove by fire damage, dry fields and hills burned. Power company trucks, fire trucks and equipment placed at strategic roads. Port-a-lets delivered.

Ruger resigned to wearing mask. Wound healing.

Tried to ‘burp’ large bottle of ginger beer that had been sitting on counter several days. Popped the swing lid and spewed all down kitchen window, cabinets, canisters and floor.

Chilled ginger beers declared a success.

Later: fire is within 1000 yards of Ray’s. Advised to get ready to move hunting dogs from the kennels. Crews abundant in the air and ground.

Observed fire coming down canyon behind Ray’s.

Report from friend to the north near reservoir: 2 fires active they can see from their home. One to south and one east of them. The Ant Fire now nearing homes of neighbors on South Crane Road.

Fierce winds. Praying.

Sun. August 20, 2023

Fires contained but crews still in place. Hills black up to neighbor’s property on South Crane Rd.

Ruger healing. Still muzzled.

Fish fry at kids’ house with bass the men caught before the lightning storm. Crinkle fries in air fryer. Yellow cake with doubled chocolate frosting.

Watched Heart of Stone with family. Don’t.

I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.  Psalm 139:14.
