If you are curious about what a gunsmith carries as his EveryDay Carry, then read on. Kevin’s pick is a Glock 43X MOS (Modular Optic System) for several reasons. First and foremost is that it is small and light, coming in at 6.5 inches long. But even with the micro size, Glock has managed to make it comfortable for a person with large, man-sized hands. Reason number two for this being his choice for everyday is the simplistic design of Glock. The internal mechanisms are straightforward but solid, with nothing to overcomplicate the construction. That makes field stripping super easy and even a deeper cleaning not really much of a chore. And if there is a malfunction, which is very rare, it’s pretty easy to fix. Third, would be that is has a ten round capacity— eleven if you carry with a round in the chamber. Eleven rounds in a ‘situation’ is clearly an improvement from the G43, which has a capacity of six plus the additional one in the chamber. With adrenaline, assessment times, and other factors, statistics show that you can actually miss your target a high percentage of the time, so it makes sense to have as many rounds as you reasonably can.
The MOS in the title of the G43X means that he can mount whatever red dot optic he wants, and what he chose is a Shield SMSc red dot, primarily because the red dot stays on all the time. It also has an ambient light sensor that adjusts to the current light situation.
Kevin’s holster is a Ayin Tactical which can be worn ISW (inside waistband) or OSW (outside waistband). It’s right-handed for Glock 43/43X and can fit the firearm with an optic on it or without, that he carries at the appendix location. It is made of 4332 Boltaron, made in the USA, and has adjustable retention. He has also modified it (of course) with a clip that keeps it from leaning out. His favorite belt is the Groove Belt from Groovelife that has a little bit of give to it, but not enough to keep you fussing at it all day.
And the rounds he carries are Hornady Critical Defense hollow points.
Now you know.
